L’Oreal needs to have a talk with its makeup artists. Because they are ravaging the faces of some of India’s most glamorous women with savage pleasure at Cannes. Makeup brand ambassadors? No way! More like walking makeup nightmares.
I have long maintained that Aishwarya Rai is the most beautiful woman in the world. Not so at Cannes this year, thanks to L’Oreal…
WHAT NOT TO DO: The blush is garish and poorly blended. The eyeshadow is not flattering to her skin color and has been applied messily. Really messily. Ash, like many, does not have the face for buckets of eyeshadow; instead of making her look playful and exotic, she looks haggard.
WHAT TO DO: Just because you’re going to a party (or the red carpet), doesn’t mean your face should be drowning in makeup. Most of the time, less is more, and makeup should be used to enhance your features, not to make you look like a box of Crayola crayons. Here is a picture of Ash from a photocall at Cannes a few years ago:
Ooh la la! Need I say more? Sharp black eyeliner, curled and mascara-d lashes, and a natural lipgloss is all you need to look like a superstar!
Let’s move on to another L’Oreal ambassador, actress Sonam Kapoor, at Cannes this year as well…
WHAT NOT TO DO: Too much. Just too much. The winged eyeliner showed promise but it was lost amidst the dark and unflatteringly placed metallic eyeshadow, the over-the-top blush/bronzer, and the orange lipstick. There’s nothing wrong with experimenting with makeup. But when you do, you have to make sure that there is cohesion and focus to your look.
WHAT TO DO: The orange lipstick would have worked if her makeup artists had not applied nearly as much blush and had toned down the eye makeup. False lashes, a small and subtle wing, and soft contouring in the cheekbones would have given Sonam a clean, fresh palette upon which to apply her lipstick.
Remember, ladies… have fun with makeup… but be sure to apply it in a well-lit room!
And stay away from those L’Oreal makeup artists if you love your face!
