Hundreds of years ago, during the Chinese Tang Dynasty, white tea was considered a delicacy fit only for the Emperor and his royal family. Today it remains a rare and cherished treat, better for health and beauty than any of its tea brethren- including green tea!
Research has found that white tea has higher antibacterial and antiviral properties than green tea, as well as more antioxidant activity. The high antioxidant activity makes white tea excellent for disease prevention- including cancer and heart disease- as well as for fighting the signs of aging. Exposure to UV rays from the sun can damage skin and cause premature aging, and white tea’s antioxidant catechins help to fight wrinkles and repair tissue.
White tea also has less caffeine than green or black tea, making it an easy addition to your daily routine without disturbing your sleep.
You can find white tea at your local grocery store or health store. It is more difficult to find than other types of teas, as it hasn’t had the same amount of press exposure as green tea, but it’s worth the search. Try and find it in its pure form, without added flavors, to get the true Chinese royal tea experience.
I love white tea for its delicious, sweet taste, calming fragrance, and incredible health benefits. If you try it, let us know!
