How can you not have a girl crush on Natalie Portman? This Hollywood actress has it all– beauty, brains, and talent. Natalie is the perfect makeup muse for women who prefer a look that is delicate, feminine, and a little feline. This breakdown is best suited for those with small and/or narrow faces.

Natalie’s signature makeup look involves a subtle smoked out eye that angles upwards and outwards parallel to her eyebrows. Natalie’s eyebrows play a huge role in making her face as distinctive as it is. You’ll notice they are not rounded or arched, but straight, and actually angle upwards at the ends. She uses this to her advantage with the smokey eye by mimicking their hawkish shape. The shadow extends her eyes, making them look larger and more slanted, drawing attention to them (and away from the rest of her face).

To get her eye makeup look, line the upper and lower waterline completely with a brown eye pencil. Sweep a medium-brown eyeshadow over the lids and outwards to form the shadow cat eye. If desired, use a thin brush to smudge a silver, purple, plum or metallic light brown eyeshadow over the upper and lower lashlines as well. Apply a silver or pearl-toned highlighter under the brow. Curl lashes and apply plenty of mascara.

Avoid bronzers and shimmery blushes and stick with matte pinks and faint reds for the cheeks. If you’re looking to up the drama, go for a “rouge”-d look by sweeping a red blush like MAC Powder Blush in Frankly Scarlet onto the apples of the cheeks (but don’t blend it all over the place, or you’ll look sloppy!). Otherwise, stick with a natural pink that suits your skintone (MAC Powder Blush in Mocha). Natalie’s makeup artists will often strategically apply her blush from the underside of the cheek to beneath the temple to emphasize her cheekbones.

To get Natalie’s classic lip look, skip heavy lipsticks and lip liners and go for sheer formulas in pink and red tones. Natalie is well-known for her environmental advocacy and vegan lifestyle, so why not follow in her footsteps and opt for lip products from an all-natural skincare brand, like Korres Mango Butter Lipstick SPF 10 in Natural Pink. Miss Portman is also a brand ambassador for Dior, so you can’t go wrong there either!

Whether you love her, hate her, or don’t know who she is, I think we can all agree that Kim Kardashian is an attractive woman.  And, to give you all full disclosure, I’m a huge reality TV junkie and love watching Keeping up with the Kardashians.  I’m always amazed by their hair – it’s always perfectly beautiful!  And Kim’s olive skin tone and gorgeous dark hair – complements of her half-Armenian ancestry – makes her a perfect candidate for a mini makeup translation.

While Kim K’s daily makeup is a bit heavy for my life, I can’t fault her makeup choices.  The colors she chooses always complement her complexion well. Plus, her go-to, favorite makeup products are some of my favorite products too!  She loves Nars’ Orgasm blush, saying “I love It goes everywhere with me and looks great on olive skin tones like mine”.  Kim also loves Lancome mascaras, choosing Hypnose to add volume to her naturally long lashes.

Finally, Kim knows how important it is to remove all her makeup before she goes to bed.  To speed up the process or clean up on the go she uses Olay’s Wet Express Cleansing Cloths.  Kim says these fragrance free wipes are her “saving grace”, loving how quickly and efficiently the wipes help her remove her makeup.

Penelope Cruz isn’t Asian, but her dark eyes, dark hair, and olive skin tone make her very Asian-relatable.  She looked absolutely stunning on the cover the U.S. Vogue’s June edition rocking a very natural-yet-totally-sexy makeup look.  This is the perfect look for a sexy summer date night or girls night.  I can just imagine wearing this makeup on a sultry summer night, sitting outside and sipping on a mojito while hanging out with friends.  Summertime perfection.  So, without further ado, my interpretation of Penelope Cruz’ gorgeous makeup look!

– Apply moisturizer and sunscreen as usual. This is a really natural look and we want all the natural aspects of the skin to show (like Penelope’s adorable freckles!) so only use concealer if you absolutely feel you have to.

– Apply a tinted moisturizer or a very light foundation (MAC Face and Body Foundation).

– This is a very matte look so gently dust your face with a translucent loose powder (Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder) to get rid of any shine.

– Suck in your cheeks and apply a brown, low-shimmer bronzer below your cheekbones (Nars Bronzer in Laguna- I know the description says brown with golden shimmer, but trust me it’s very low shimmer).

– Lightly apply a light brown eyeshadow with the slightest (slightest) tint of red (MAC Eyeshadow in Brown Script) on your entire eyelid, from lash line to crease.

– Line your upper eye lid and half your bottom lid, from the outside corner to slightly past the halfway mark of your eye, with a kohl eyeliner (MAC Eye Kohl in Costa Riche).  Slightly smudge with your fingers.  Make sure you line your bottom lid, not your bottom water line.

– Take an angled brush (MAC 263 Small Angle Brush) and draw a thicker line along 3/4 of the upper lid, from the outside corner to a little bit before the inner corner, with a dark brown or very dark plum eyeshadow (MAC Eyeshadow in Handwritten or Shadowy Lady).  Also draw a line with the same eyeshadow along half of your bottom lid, from the outside corner to the halfway point of your eye.  Finally, create a slight wing with eyeshadow at the outside corner of your eye.

– Curl your eyelashes and apply a natural looking, thickening black mascara (Lancome Hypnose Mascara).  Remember to apply mascara to your bottom lashes (try Clinique’s Bottom Lash mascara for easy bottom lash mascara application).

– Fill in your eyebrows with a dark brown eyebrow filler (MAC Eye Brows in Stud).  Rub your finger along your brows or brush them out with a brow brush to make your brows seem more natural.

– Apply a brownish-pink matte lip color (Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bahama).  For a longer lasting lip look, line your lips before applying the lip color with a similar-colored lip liner (Nars Lipliner Pencil in Borneo).

Penelope’s hair was styled for this shoot by famous celebrity and high fashion hairstylist Oribe, who shared his technique with Hollywood Life.  Here are his directions:

– “Start off with wet or dry hair — whichever you prefer. Turn your head upside-down, and give your hair a good misting with beach styling spray that will impart moisture, separation and shine.”  JA suggestion: try celebrity and fashionista favorite Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray.

– “Throw your hair back, and lightly spray on more beach spray, or apply a lightweight styling cream like my Creme for Style.”

– “Work through your hair with your hands to enhance natural texture.”

Please let us know via email, Twitter, or comments if there are any other looks you’d like us to break down, we’d be more than happy to oblige!

Want to know how to apply makeup to look like Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” star Vanessa Anne Hudgens? I’ve done mini makeup breakdowns for three of beautiful Baby V’s most-often worn looks below!

Vanessa Hudgens is a great beauty muse for girls with medium to big eyes, medium noses, and small lips. Asian, Indian, and Latina ladies who are similar to her skintone could also take a leaf out of her book for blush and lipcolor choices!

For advice and tips on getting Vanessa’s casual fashion and style, check out our How to Dress Like Vanessa Hudgens Guide!

Look 1: Dewy skin and brown smoky eyes

Vanessa looks her best when she is showing off her perfect, clear skin and rocking a natural glow. Try using a moisturizing cream foundation for a dewy finish (MAC Mineralize Foundation SPF 15). Create a brown smoky eye look by lining your lower waterline and lashline with a brown eye pencil (MAC Eye Pencil in Coffee). Sweep a medium-brown matte eye shadow (MAC Eye Shadow in Soft Brown) over the lids and wing out, being sure to blend any hard edges. Finish the look with a sheer peachy lipgloss (MAC Lustreglass in Love Nectar).

Look 2: Silvery smoky eyes with a pale pink lip

Be a mysterious damsel with silvery smoky eyes, designed with the help of Dior’s 5-color eye shadow palette in Smoky Design. The palette comes with instructions to create a sexy smoky eye look. Apply mascara and finish the look with a pale pink-nude lipstick or lipgloss. Try NARS Lipgloss in Turkish Delight.

Look 3: Kohl-rimmed eyes with a cinnamon lip

I love this look for an evening out or party. Draw attention to your dazzling eyes by rimming them, top and bottom, with your favorite black eye pencil or gel eyeliner (I always recommend MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack for zero-smudging). Begin, if desired, by prepping the lid and crease area with a wash of light brown or beige matte eye shadow (MAC Eye Shadow in Omega). Line the lower and upper waterlines and lashlines. Bring out just a hair to form a very subtle, thin wing. Don’t forget mascara (Diorshow by Christian Dior) to finish the look! Round off your makeup by applying a warm, cinnamon-y lipgloss (MAC Lustreglass in Beaux).

Have fun, gorgeous ones!

Julia Restoin Roitfeld is the beautiful daughter of former French Vogue Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld, the face for Tom Ford’s Black Orchid perfume, and a recently-signed face of Lancome.  In an interview with one of my favorite blogs, Into The Gloss, she revealed that she darkens her eyebrows with mascara.

She uses L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes in black, but you can use any mascara you have!  (We finally have a use for those tiny free mascara samples!)  I immediately tried this after I read her interview a few months ago and, now, I do it almost every day!  I use an old Lancome Hypnose that’s almost out, but you can really use anything.  Just brush off all the excess mascara on the rim of the tube and stroke following your hairs.  You’ll have immediately darker brows that look incredibly natural!

Rachel McAdams is undeniably one of the most gorgeous women in Hollywood. That skin! Those lips! Celebrity makeup magician Troy Jensen has worked his magic with her on a number of occasions and has shared his makeup breakdowns with us Muggles. Be sure to check out his other spellwork on his website!

Girls should always find makeup and fashion muses among celebrities to be inspired by. Rachel McAdams is the perfect beauty muse for Asian and Indian girls with small to medium eyes and medium to large lips who want to know how to apply makeup to make the best of their features. Rachel likes to play up her lips with rich, sexy colors and keep her eyes smoldering with a neat smoky eye.

Look 1: Brown smoky eye and bright pink lips

This may honestly be one of my absolute favorite makeup looks of all time. Jensen paired a white and brown smoky eye with pink blush and a stunning pink lipgloss (Shu Uemura Vinyl Unlimited Lip Gloss in Vivid Pink Lacquer). To emulate, keep your smoky eye very clean and neat; don’t go crazy with smudging and spread your shadows and liner all over the place. Contain and control.

Look 2: Shimmery white-gray smoky eye with red lips

Look at Rachel looking oh so fierce in her shimmery, wintery smoky eye makeup paired with a Christmas-y pink-based red lipgloss.

For Rachel’s eye makeup, Jensen used NARS Eye Liner Pencil in Iceberg, Clinique Quick Eyes Cream Shadow in Sparkling Nude, Dior 5-Colour Designer All-In-One Artistry Palette in Smoky Design, Dior High Impact Eyeshadow in Crystal White, and Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara.

For her red lips, he prepped with Estee Lauder Lip Conditioner SPF 15, Revlon ColorStay Lip Liner in Red, and Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect in Red Stockings.

Look 3: Purple smoky eye with nude lips

Normally I am not a fan of unnatural colors in eye makeup looks but Jensen can make any girl change her mind about placing limitations on the power of makeup! Rachel’s vivid purple eye makeup look is divine and even gives the impression of bringing out flecks of purple in the color of her green eyes. Jensen used a purple eyeshadow palette by Yves Saint Laurent (YSL Ombres 5 Lumieres 5 Colour Harmony for Eyes in Lilac Sky) and paired with a nude-pink lipcolor.

The idea remains the same: keep your smoky eye look (paradoxically) sharp and crisp; you want your small or medium eyes to be an alluring asset… make the guys and gals want to come and get a closer look! And don’t forget to accentuate your lovely lips.
