I’m a huge fan of ABC’s fantasy drama “Once Upon a Time”, now in its second season, starring Hollywood film and television actress Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret Blanchard. I couldn’t help but notice that she shares a resemblance to young Bollywood star and magazine cover darling Anushka Sharma.

Although their eyes are not quite alike (Ginny’s are more close-set and almond-shaped, whereas Anushka’s eyes are rounder) and Anushka has a slightly larger nose than Ginnifer, their face shape and jawline are extremely similar, as are many of their expressions, particularly when posing for the camera on the red carpet. Their strongest similarities appear to be the way in which they hold their mouth and in their smiles.

Let’s take it to a vote!

(While you’re at it, be sure to cast your ballot in the “Is Sonam Kapoor the Indian Emma Watson?” poll! The votes are very close!)

Anushka Sharma revealed her secret to beautiful skin on the UTV Stars show “Live My Life”: a healthy juice made of fruits and vegetables! She says her mother has had her take it every morning for years to keep her skin and her system clean and clear. Her superfan Nayab got to try this homemade concoction- I don’t think he liked it much, but if it can impart some of that Anushka glow, I’d give it a shot any day!

The drink (shown above) is a beautiful deep mulberry color; it looks frothy and thin, so its contents have probably been put through a juicer. The drink consists of: cucumber, carrot, apple, amla (Indian gooseberry), and beetroot. Let us know if you try it!

Check out Jun Ji-hyun‘s elegant but edgy take on the red lip on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

Apply base makeup (concealer and foundation) as usual. Use a liquid illuminator or highlighting powder on the bridge of your nose, the apples of your cheeks, and inner corners of your eyes.

Using a very fine brush, line the lower lashline with an icy white shadow (MAC Eye Shadow in Pink Freeze). Sweep a soft golden-beige shadow (MAC Eye Shadow in Era) over the lid. Curl lashes and apply your favorite mascara.

Use a deep plum blush (MAC Powder Blush in Breath of Plum) on your cheekbones. Blend well to a natural finish. Round off the look with a blue-based red matte lipstick (MAC Viva Glam I Lipstick).

This look also happens to be nearly identical to Anushka Sharma‘s in the July 2011 issue of Maxim India, pictured below. Funny how that works, right?

Another year, another IIFA (International Indian Film Academy awards), this time in Toronto, Canada. This year’s IIFA was full of glitz, glam, and for the most part, gorgeous-ness. Here are my picks for the beauty and fashion winners and losers of the weekend.

Without a doubt, my pick for winner of the weekend is Anushka Sharma. She dazzled in a Sabyasachi sari (show them how to make it look youthful, girl!) and a long black gown; what a figure! Love the volumized bun! Also appreciate the branching out of her usual makeup style with a dark winged cat-eye on right.

Another winner at the awards function was Shilpa Shetty. She put everyone to shame in a slinky, sequined black number on the green carpet. Only Shilpa’s waistline can pull this one off! Also like the matching of the lipstick to the clutch; very cute. To emulate, try a frosty pink lip color like MAC Lipstick in Creme de la Femme.

The runner-up is Priyanka Chopra. I loved her Manish Malhotra lahenga (the blue velvet is gorgeous and so rich); BUT, her lipstick really hurt the look for me. Think it might be MAC Lipstick in Verve. A beautiful deep blood-red with a hint of shimmer would have worked oh-so-much better. Lovely PC, what can I tell you that will get you out of your matte brownish lipsticks rut?

Now for the losers.

It pains me deeply to say this about Shahrukh Khan, because he is my first love and my absolute favorite actor. I used to have six life-size posters of his up in my bedroom. But that ridiculous hairstyle has got to go.

Where has Rahul of “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” gone? SRK’s signature haircut has been replaced by thirteen-year-old boy circa Y2K with a gravity-defying roof (minus the frosted tips, at least). Basically, it looks like he’s trying too hard to appear younger than he really is.

As spotted by highheelconfidential, Bipasha Basu and Ameesha Patel showed up on the green carpet wearing the same dress in different colors. Both actresses also acknowledged this on their Twitter pages:

Embarrassing, but in my opinion, not actually that big of a deal. What’s more pressing to me is- how on Earth did they sit down in those tiny dresses?!

I don’t know about Malaika Arora Khan. Recently I’ve been cringing a little at her wardrobe choices; as her husband gains weight and loses hair, she remains fit and fabulous, but if I were her age, I’d be covering up a little more. Too much skin-show can look desperate.

I felt awkward looking at Genelia D’Souza‘s pictures on the green carpet. Her cat eye/smoky eye makeup was over-the-top and her hair styling was amateurish. I love her playfulness but it’s consuming her in the picture on the right. Unfortunately, she’s not making it work!

What do you think about my choices for winners and losers at IIFA? Agree? Disagree? Got other favorites?

Want to learn how to look like Bollywood actress and star Anushka Sharma? Here is your comprehensive how-to guide on Anushka Sharma’s beauty secrets, makeup mantras, and hair styling tips.

Anushka Sharma, an Indian model since her teenage years, entered Bollywood with a lucky debut opposite Shahrukh Khan in the 2008 film “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi”. Afterwards, she landed a contract with Yash Raj Films to star in several more films. Anushka threatened her A-List heroine peers with her bubbly, charming performance in the 2010 film “Band Baaja Baaraat” opposite Ranveer Singh. Together the two are Bollywood’s newest favorite romantic pair.

Anushka told Beauty India Magazine that to feel beautiful, “one needs to be healthy both in mind and body, tempered with kindness and strong will. I often get to hear that my smile is my best feature. I flash it when I don’t feel beautiful inside…”

About her skincare routine, she said is a minimalist. “It’s very important for me to scrub my skin and wash my hair off the products that are used during shoots. I simply can’t imagine going to bed without washing my hair.”

Every night, Anushka washes her face with a creamy cleanser and moisturizes with a cocoa butter lotion. She also meditates twice a day: once in the morning and once at night before sleeping.

Anushka also told Rediff.com that she uses neem face pasks to detoxify her skin. “I am blessed with very good skin,” she says, “but because of the damage from all the makeup we apply and pollution, I wash my face regularly. I drink lots of water and try to be happy.”

Regarding her exercise regimen, Anushka told WonderWoman India that she exercises “religiously”: “no matter how busy I keep, I never compromise with my workout schedule. If I’m unable to exercise in the morning, I make sure I do so in the evening. And if I’m shooting at a faraway location, I make sure I go for a jog or a walk and eat right.” She likes to weight train four days a week for an hour and supplement her workouts with yoga.

Having a healthy diet like Anushka doesn’t mean eating like a rabbit! Anushka doesn’t like to eat only salads or low-carb, high-protein diets, instead choosing to eat everything in moderate proportions. Says Anushka: “the right diet contributes to about 60 per cent of keeping your body weight in check. I make sure I have a fruit or two every day for my share of anti-oxidants. The key is to maintain a healthy balance between eating well and exercising right, be it to keep your weight in check or get that glow on your skin.”

Anushka’s daily makeup look involves a very light application of foundation. She follows that up with a wash of peach eyeshadow on her lids and up to her eyebrow. She applies a highlighting powder under the arch of her brow. She lines her lower waterline with a brown eye pencil and applies a coat of mascara to her lashes. She finishes the look with a pinky-peach blush and a peach lipstick or lipgloss.

There are three basic rules to follow when applying makeup to look like Anushka Sharma.

1) Keep your eye makeup bare and understated

Anushka, like Katrina Kaif, prefers to keep her eye makeup simple and toned-down. Try a peach-beige eyeshadow like MAC Eye Shadow in Bamboo on the lid and blend up towards the eyebrow, as seen in the Daily Look image above. Apply an illuminator or highlighting powder underneath the arch of the brow. Line the lower lashline with a brown eye pencil (MAC Eye Pencil in Coffee). If desired, line the outer third of the upper lashes with a black liquid liner (MAC Liquid Eye Liner). Finish with your favorite mascara.

2) Apply a pink-peach blush to your cheeks and cheekbones

Anushka has wide cheeks and likes to give them definition and shape by applying a generous amount of pinky-peach blush to her cheeks as well as her cheekbones. To get her look, try MAC Powder Blush in Fleur Power.

3) Use peach lipsticks and lipglosses

Like every girl, Anushka has a favorite go-to lipcolor for any occasion. Anushka pairs her pink-peach blush with a warm peachy-brown lipstick or peach lipgloss; to mimic, try MAC Lipstick in Honeyflower or MAC Tinted Lipglass in Enchantress.

Anushka Sharma told Indiatimes that to prevent hair damage and breakage, she likes to pamper her hair with regular hot oil massages. Says Anushka, “I avoid washing my hair without oiling them and keep it for at least an hour before shampooing. Nothing works better than a good hot coconut oil massage that keeps the scalp and hair strong and healthy.”

Anushka likes to color her hair with dyes of varying shades of brown; light, medium, or dark. She almost always wears her hair down, either given a blow-out, curled, brushed out naturally and sprayed with hair spray to keep her bangs in place.

And that’s how you can use diet, exercise, makeup, and hair styling to look just like Bollywood celebrity Anushka Sharma. Let us know what you think and if there are any other celebrities you’d like to learn more about!

I couldn’t get enough of Anushka Sharma’s simple, natural makeup in the 2010 Bollywood film “Band Baaja Baaraat”. It was fresh, young, and easy to replicate!

Recommended Products:

MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation

MAC Studio Finish Concealer

Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner in Brown

MAC Eye Shadows in Cork and Corduroy

MAC Zoom Lash Mascara

MAC Lipstick in Crosswires

As always, prep with your usual moisturizer and sunscreen. Apply concealer (MAC Studio Finish Concealer) under your eyes, around the corners of your nose, and on any blemishes to even out your skintone.

– Using a powder brush, apply a foundation powder using downward strokes. Sweeping downward prevents the powder from getting trapped oddly on the fine hairs of your face. Blend well and don’t forget the edges of your face and near your neck. My favorite foundation of all time is MAC’s Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation compact. It does the work of a foundation and a powder in one, providing excellent coverage and a matte finish.

(Fun fact: Actress Priyanka Chopra loves the MAC Studio Fix powder foundation for daily wear!)

– Because we are going for an ultra clean look here, I don’t necessarily recommend applying a blush.

– Anushka’s eyes are a medium brown color in the movie. If your eyes are dark brown or black, you can try brown contacts to imitate her look.

Line your upper and lower waterline with a brown eye pencil. I’ve tried many eyeliners and Revlon’s lasts the longest.

– Brush a light brown eyeshadow over the entire eyelid (MAC Eye Shadow in Cork). Choose an eyeshadow that is close to the color of your lid, but a little darker.

– Using a small brush, lightly sweep close to your lower lashline with a medium-dark brown eyeshadow (MAC Eye Shadow in Corduroy). If desired, wing the shadow out slightly on the edges of the eyes.

– Curl lashes and apply a lengthening mascara (MAC Zoom Lash).

Anushka’s lipcolor made this look unique and cool. For most of the film she wore a pinky-coral lipstick, as seen below. To get her summery pout, try MAC Lipstick in Crosswires!
