Check out Jun Ji-hyun‘s elegant but edgy take on the red lip on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

Apply base makeup (concealer and foundation) as usual. Use a liquid illuminator or highlighting powder on the bridge of your nose, the apples of your cheeks, and inner corners of your eyes.

Using a very fine brush, line the lower lashline with an icy white shadow (MAC Eye Shadow in Pink Freeze). Sweep a soft golden-beige shadow (MAC Eye Shadow in Era) over the lid. Curl lashes and apply your favorite mascara.

Use a deep plum blush (MAC Powder Blush in Breath of Plum) on your cheekbones. Blend well to a natural finish. Round off the look with a blue-based red matte lipstick (MAC Viva Glam I Lipstick).

This look also happens to be nearly identical to Anushka Sharma‘s in the July 2011 issue of Maxim India, pictured below. Funny how that works, right?

Getting Jun Ji-hyun‘s pretty, natural summer look from this cover of Elle Magazine is surprisingly easy!

The face makeup is extremely basic: apply your concealer and foundation as usual. A blush or bronzer is not necessary for this look.

Sweep a coral-pink eyeshadow (MAC Eye Shadow in Paradisco) over the eyelid and blend upwards into the crease as seen in the image above.

Curl lashes and apply a brown mascara to the upper and lower lashes.

Finish the look with a coral-pink frost lipstick (MAC Lipstick in CB96).

OK, I still can’t get over how great Jun Ji-Hyun looked at Cannes.  My favorite of her hair and makeup looks was definitely her voluminous waves at the photo call for Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.  So, here’s my interpretation!

Recommended Products

MAC Studio Finish Concealer

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Nars “The Multiple” in Laguna

Nars Illuminator in Orgasm

Benefit High Beam Luminizer

MAC Eye Kohl in Rosemary and Thyme

MAC Liquid Liner in Boot Black

MAC Eye Brows

Lancome Definicils High Definition Mascara

Nars Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Goddess

Clinique Chubby Stick in Chunky Cherry

Fekkai Tousled Wave Spray

Conair Infiniti Curling Wand Styler

-Apply moisturizer and sunscreen as usual. Use concealer (MAC Studio Finish Concealer) to cover blemishes and dark circles as needed.   Jun’s skin is beyond flawless so try and be thorough.  I’d suggest getting a magnifying mirror so you can get very intimate with your face

– Apply liquid foundation (Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation) with a damp sponge for a natural look.  Be thorough but don’t pile on layers.

-Suck in your cheeks and apply a very light slash of bronzer (Nars The Multiple in Laguna) below your cheekbones and blend in with your fingers.  Jun looks like she has no color on her cheeks from afar, but close up you can see the subtle bits of color.  The Multiple stick will help with the light application and more natural look

-Apply blush (Nars Illuminator in Orgasm)  lightly onto the apples of your cheeks.  The liquid illuminator will also help with light application and make the glow seem like it’s coming from within.

-To complete the almost dewy, glowing look that Jun has add some luminizer (Benefit High Beam) onto your cheekbones and down the middle of your nose.  Blend well with your fingers.

Draw lightly around the eye, top and bottom with a pale, shimmery eyeshadow (Nars Eyeshadow stick in Goddess).  Smudge with your fingers, you don’t want a heavy line just a light shimmer

-Draw a thin line with a slight wing on your upper lid with a black liquid liner (MAC Liquid Liner)

-Line the bottom rim of your eye with a brownish-black kohl liner (MAC Eye Kohl).  Smudge to make the line more natural looking

-Curl your lashes (preferably with the Shu Uemera Eyelash Curler) and apply mascara (Lamcome Definicils High Definition Mascara).  Go for a natural, lengthening look, don’t have your eyelashes be clumpy.

-Apply a brow filler (MAC Brows).  Brush your brows to diffuse the color evenly into your brows.

-Use a lip balm for well moisturized lips

-Apply a glossy lipstick or stain in a sheer red (Clinique Chubby Stick in Chunky Cherry).  Clinique’s Chubby Sticks are great pops of color that also provide moisture and gloss.

-Jun’s hair is dyed slightly brown.  To imitate this look, see a colorist at your local salon

-Blowdry your hair

-Spray a wave spray (Fekkai Tousled Wave Spray) onto dry hair

-Create loose, sporadic waves with a curler (Conair Infiniti Curling Wand Styler).  Natural waves are best created with a wand tool that doesn’t have the clamp that is present on most traditional curlers.  Many inexpensive ones work really well, I’d urge anyone to give wand stylers a try!

-brush your fingers gently through the waves.  Apply more waving spray or hair spray if needed

And that’s how you can look sophisticated, naturally beautiful, and camera ready like Jun Ji-Hyun at Cannes!

I know Cannes is in the past, but I recently came across these pictures of Jun Ji-Hyun (also known as Gianna Jun) and had to post them!  I still have a girl crush on her from My Sassy Girl (you can read about it here) and I’m delighted to find that she’s only gotten more beautiful.

Jun was poised and ever her sassy, confident self on her first trip to Cannes.  She dazzled in a light pink Ralph Lauren dress at the premiere of The Artist.  The dress was soft and feminine, the color perfectly complementing her creamy complexion, and subtly sexy, showing off her great figure.

She wore a pretty cream silk dress with a subtle draping detail at the photocall for her new film (co-starring another favorite of mine – Li Bing Bing) The Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.  I particularly love her voluminous hair at this event.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any specific information on her dress.  If you know anything please email me!

Finally, Jun was chic and sexy in a full length, at another event for The Snow Flower and the Secret fan.  She looks very sophisticated with Li Bing Bing.  Both actresses chose sexy, more modern looks for this event.  No info on this dress either, which is a shame, but if I were to guess I’d say either Armani or Valentino …

I have to say, though I’ve never been a fan of Lisa See’s novels, I will definitely be seeing The Snow Flower and the Secret Fan when it comes out just to see my girls Jun and LBB … and Hugh Jackman of course!

I have a confession to make.  I’m addicted to Korean dramas.  I might be Chinese, but I watch 5 times as much Korean cinema as I do Chinese.  Autumn in my Heart, Il Mare, Boy Over Flowers … I love it all!  But my favorite Korean drama is actually a film: My Sassy Girlfriend, released in 2001.

I love how funny and cute the movie is and I love even more how naturally beautiful Jun Ji-hyun is in it.  I still remember inviting Meg over to my house to watch the movie on the big screen TV in the basement of my old house so we could marvel over her perfect skin and laugh at her ridiculously funny co-star, Cha Tae Hyun.  She even motivated me to go out and buy a bright pink zip up hoodie to wear over a bright pink checked polo, that’s how much I loved this movie.

Hindsight being 20/20, I can now figure out how to imitate her look without the ridiculous pink-on-pink of my past, but first we’ll start this look from the beginning.

Jun has radiant skin and a flawless complexion, and in My Sassy girl her makeup is very natural-looking, allowing her beautiful skin to shine through.  While we might not all be that lucky, we can still try and mimic her look.  First, wash your face thoroughly with your usual cleanser and moisturizer your skin well.  Cover any blemishes with a well-matched concealer ( I enjoy Nars concealer $22).  Then instead of a foundation, try a tinted moisturizer (Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer $42, is very nice and very popular) for an even complexion that doesn’t look too made up.  Part of a natural look is to not have a matte face, but I know many of us aren’t comfortable with being a bit shiny.  If that’s you, try Clinique’s Almost Powder, $24, for a bit of natural-looking matte-ness.

Line the top of your eyelid with a black pencil liner, then take your finger and smudge it slightly.  Don’t line the bottom of your eye.  Curl your lashes and add a touch of mascara, but make sure not to wear too much.  I’d suggest Kiehl’s Marvelous Mineral Mascara, $16.50, for a subtle lash look (it also contains jojoba oil, perfect for keeping your lashes healthy!).  Finally, top it all off with lip and cheek stains to get a bit of a natural glow (read Meg’s post to learn how to do it!)

Jun’s style in the movie is 100% preppy.  From khaki trousers to dress shirts to cardigans, she probably owned the entire 2001 J. Crew collection.  For a 2011 take on this look, I’m still heading to J.Crew!  Try a cropped pant, like the Minnie pants, in khaki and wear a dress shirt with a bright colored cardigan (like pink!) over it.  Finally, slip your feet into a classic pair of keds

Last but not least, Jun’s hair is stunning.  To also have gorgeously shiny, healthy, silky hair try an Ancient Indian beauty secret: the hair oil massage

Jun Ji-Hyun’s look in can work for anyone because it’s all about letting your natural beauty shine through.  And now that I’ve tackled getting her beauty look, maybe I can move on to finding myself a man as awesome as her’s in My Sassy Girlfriend.  Here’s hoping!

P.S. if you guys haven’t seen this movie I highly recommend it.  It’s an absolute blast to watch!
